Once Beowulf had defeated Grendel the king honor him with gifts .After a while and the king and his son had die Beowulf eventually be came the king, but before them celebrating that Beowulf had defeated Grendel his mother comes back and tries to get rid off Beowulf and she murders Aschere,one of Hrothgar’s most trusted advisorsbefore sinking away. To avenge Aescheres death Beowuld goes to the like to try and confront her and kills her with a sword. The Danes are again overjoyed, and Beowulf’s fame spreads across the kingdom. Beowulf departs after a sorrowful goodbye to Hrothgar, who has treated him like a son. He returns to Geatland, where he and his men are reunited with their king and queen, Hygelac and Hygd, to whom Beowulf recounts his adventures in Denmark. Beowulf then hands over most of his treasure to Hygelac, who, in turn, rewards him. Beowulf is the earliest extant poem in a odern European language. It was composed in Enhland four centuries before the Norman Cnquest. As a social document this great epic poem is invaluable reflecting a feudal, newly Christian world of heroes and monsters, blood and victory, life and death. As a work of art it is unique: Beowulf rings with a beuty, power and artistry that have kept it alive for more than twelve centuries. The noble simplicity of Beowulf`s anonymous Anglo-Saxon singer is recaptured in this vivid translation by Burton Raffel.
